It seems that now we may have our answer, with news that the director is in talks to take on The Equalizer remake for Sony Pictures.

Denzel Washington is attached to star as a former spy who despises injustice and now lives a solitary, reclusive life. He devotes all his time and energy to stop helpless people from being victimized. The original TV series The Equalizer, which starred Edward Woodward, ran for four seasons from 1985 to 1989.

We reported in December that Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) was locked in to direct, but that deal apparently never went through.

Rupert Wyatt will direct from a screenplay by Richard Wenk, with Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, Alex Siskin, Mace Neufeld, Michael Sloan, and Tony Eldridge producing. No production schedule was given for this $50 million project.

The Equalizer comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Denzel Washington.
